About Me

My doctoral degree in clinical psychology, conferred in 2003 from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey’s Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP)—regarded as the nation’s “gold standard” in clinical psychology training—included coursework and supervised clinical experiences in psychoanalytic, family systems and cognitive behavioral therapies. While at Rutgers, I was awarded a graduate fellowship in which I served as the clinical services coordinator for the GSAPP Psychological Clinic. Additional graduate training experiences included serving as the clinical services coordinator for the Rutgers Posttraumatic Stress Disorders Clinic and conducting child sexual abuse forensic evaluations at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. I researched school-based mental health services for urban student populations during a graduate fellowship with the Rutgers University Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research’s Center for State Health Policy. My doctoral dissertation investigated the multifaceted role of shame in adolescents’ psychological and interpersonal struggles. My predoctoral internship in child, adolescent and family psychology was at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ) in New Brunswick, NJ. Through this training, I was able to complement my thorough grounding in child/adolescent/family treatments with experiences in providing short-term individual therapy, as well as marital and sex therapy.

Following my doctoral training, I served in the University Behavioral HealthCare division of UMDNJ-Piscataway as a therapist in the Adolescent Therapeutic Day School (ATDS), a partial hospital / special education program for teens with significant psychiatric, behavioral, legal and family problems. In that role, I ran a treatment team for adolescent patients, providing individual, family and group therapy, as well as crisis intervention for psychiatric emergencies. At UMDNJ, I also worked for a Red Cross grant-funded program providing in-home therapy for victims of and first responders to the 9/11 attacks.

I opened my private practice in 2004 and since then have provided long- and short-term psychotherapy to individual children and adults, couples and families in the New Jersey and New York City areas. Several school systems in Mercer, Middlesex, Union & Somerset Counties regularly consult with me regarding students and families presenting a threat to themselves or members of the school population. In private practice, I also offer training and consultation services to therapist trainees at the graduate level, as well as to postgraduate therapists seeking or having just recently earned licensure.

I served on the Board of the Middlesex County Association of Psychologists as Treasurer, holding this position from 2006 to 2008. Currently, I am a member of the New Jersey Psychological Association and Division 39 of the American Psychological Association, which focuses on psychoanalysis.
